John Merson, M.D.
Dr. Merson grew up in the Bay Area and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University, where he played on the tennis team. After graduating, he worked in the computer industry, but a reassessment of career path led to the UCLA School of Medicine, graduating in 1984, alongside his wife, Heidi. He then stayed in Los Angeles for his orthopedic residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He returned to the Bay Area to begin private practice in 1989 but after three years, opted to pursue subspecialty training in sports medicine at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus Georgia.

As an avid cyclist, he has a particular focus on disorders of the knee and offers treatment ranging from cartilage restoration, mobile bearing partial knee replacement and computer guided total knee replacement. Never too far away from sports, he enjoys tracking his car at local raceways, exploring the world by bicycle and spending quieter time in the open space of Walnut Creek with his wife.
